Day 2 Part B - The Flight to Rome

Finally, the team is in-flight! With the exception of Andy, John, and his wife Sally, we are all clustered in rows 15-19. We learned quickly that in the back of the plane were many open middle rows with three seats. Folks move to those seats and convert them into modified beds. As I write this, Andy, Fred, Paul, John, Sally, Betty, and Jennifer are sleeping (even through we are experiencing some rough turbulence). Annita and Marcia are watching Evan Almighty, Leslie and Sandy are talking and laughing. Nathan had just dozed off and then suddenly woke up and the pillows, MP3, and snacks went flying striking the Rwandan man in front of us! Embarrassed, Nate tells me that as he was beginning to “zone out,” a song started on his MP3 that startled him. Frankly, it was like someone pinched him! He’s doing remarkably well for a teenager who’s had 3 hours of sleep in the last 24.

You may be wondering why there is a picture of one of the coach rest rooms in this Blog posting. Okay, we’re about having fun en route to Rwanda and this I just couldn’t let go. Just look at that picture……..we can’t understand a situation in which numerous applications of red, “Evidence, Do Not Tamper” tape would be in a bathroom. It had us laughing for sure. On a positive note, while the days events with Ethiopian Airlines seemed—by American standards—unorganized, the in-flight service has been wonderful so far, and the flight attendants extremely friendly. Our fellow passengers, most who are from Ethiopia, have shared stories about their country, and the Muslim women in full dress, have been friendly and engaging, too. We American Christians are a minority on this plane, but we’ve been welcomed even as the passengers have seen us praying and singing in the terminal.

The other pictures include the Rwanda gentleman who ended-up traveling with us, and pictures from Addis, and the Addis airport!

(Wanda)….Bonjourno!...Ecco Domani!….Habamas Papem! Oh, but for the chance to let this wild group loose in Rome….and Vatican City!
